Website Ownership & Cancellation Policy
Last updated: June 2026
We believe in being clear about who owns what. This policy explains your rights as a client and what happens if you choose to leave.
1. Your domain name
Your domain name always belongs to you. We will never register a domain in our own name on your behalf unless you explicitly instruct us to do so as part of a setup service, in which case we will transfer it to your registrar account promptly after setup.
We recommend you maintain direct access to your domain registrar account. We will assist with DNS configuration but will not act as your domain registrar without your informed consent.
2. Your content
You own all content you provide. This includes written copy, photography, videos, logos, brand assets, and any other materials you supply or commission independently. We do not claim any ownership over client-supplied content.
3. Your website (after final payment)
Once final payment for a project has been received, ownership of the website design and codebase transfers to you. You are free to host it wherever you choose, modify it, or hand it to another developer.
Where websites are built on third-party platforms (e.g. Webflow, Squarespace), ownership is governed by that platform's terms. We will clearly explain any such constraints before the project begins.
4. Portfolio rights
The Digital Workshop Co. retains the right to display completed work in our portfolio, on our website, and in marketing materials (including before/after screenshots and case studies) unless you request otherwise in writing before project sign-off. Reasonable confidentiality requests will always be honoured.
5. Cancellation process
To cancel hosting or care services:
- Email sam@thedigitalworkshopco.com with the subject line "Cancellation Notice — [your business name]".
- We will acknowledge receipt within 2 business days and confirm your 30-day notice period start date.
- During the notice period, we will work with you to arrange a smooth handover.
- Your final invoice will cover service through the end of the notice period only.
6. What happens to your site (30-day handover)
During the 30-day transition period after cancellation notice we will:
- Provide a complete export of your website files (HTML, CSS, JS, images).
- Provide a database export where applicable (e.g. CMS content, blog posts).
- Assist with moving DNS records to point to your new host.
- Keep your site live on our infrastructure throughout the transition period.
After the transition period, your site will be removed from our infrastructure and all hosting-related data will be deleted from our systems.
7. Data deletion
On cancellation and completion of the handover period, we will delete:
- Your website files and database from our hosting infrastructure.
- Your account and associated data from our project management tools.
- Any API keys or credentials held on your behalf.
We retain financial records (invoices, payment history) for 7 years as required by law. We will confirm deletion in writing upon request.
8. Disputes
If you have a concern about any aspect of our service, please contact us at sam@thedigitalworkshopco.com in the first instance. We aim to resolve all issues fairly and promptly. If a dispute cannot be resolved informally, it will be subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
